Anima Silvae Association in collaboration with Kalpa Art Living and Pignano Art Gallery present their annual art review:

“De Rerum Natura | On the Nature of Things”

The collective exhibition of twelve international artists explores the mystery of existence through intuitive, semiotic and formal studies of life forms and phenomena, tracing the biological, emotional and spiritual connections between plant, animal and human. Making use of various techniques, among which painting, etching, photography, ceramics, sculpture, the act of artistic creation is defined as a natural, organic unfolding of life, promoting forms, materials and processes inspired by or found in nature.

The project takes its title from the first-century BC poem penned by the Roman poet and philosopher Lucretius expounding Epicurean philosophy, surprisingly perfectly aligned with today’s philosophical and scientific developments. Though commonly perceived as hedonistic, Epicurean thought was closer to the oriental perspective of Buddhism, avowing that lasting happiness is rooted in peace of mind and harmony with the surrounding natural world. Knowledge, trust and respect for the laws of nature create a stress free soul, released from mental fears and dependence on hostile deities. Simplicity and conscious awareness of our interconnection with all of nature promote a longed for life of equilibrium.

This dynamic exhibition is hosted in two venues all summer 2019, the art galleries: Kalpa Art Living in the historical center of Volterra and Pignano Art Gallery in the elegant estate and resort of Borgo Pignano, in the breathtaking countryside between San Gimignano and Volterra. Twelve invited artists will dialogue with soulfulness and mastery in various fluid configurations, introducing new artworks and themes throughout all summer. The exhibition will be enriched with five live summer concerts of classical music, tango and jazz in the villa of Borgo Pignano.

The spellbinding panoramas of the iconic Tuscan landscape create a perfect backdrop for this artistic conversation while speaking and calling to impress upon us how we too belong within this realm of Nature.

“All things keep on in everlasting motion,

Out of the infinite come the particles,

Speeding above, below, in endless dance.”

― Lucretius
