THE STREET OF ARTS & CRAFTS

REVITALISATION OF THE BEAUTIFUL VIA PORTA ALL’ARCO IN VOLTERRA

Welcome to Via Porta all’Arco, surely one of the most beautiful streets in Tuscany, leading from the main square of Volterra to the 3000 year old Etruscan Gate “Porta all’Arco”, this ancient monument of enormous importance. The street has a long history of traditional artisan craft workshops. Today, with the presence of Kalpa Art Living galleries and exhibitions, the tradition is being renewed through the masterful restoration of the antique interiors and the presence of contemporary art in an ongoing project  revitalising this enchanting neighbourhood, in an inspiring dialogue with its rich history.

Thanks to the vision of Kalpa and  the cooperation of the Anima Silvae Cultural Association, Cassa di Risparmio di Volterra Foundation and the shops, restaurants and hotels of Via Porta all’Arco, today this street is enjoying a renaissance with art windows, abundant plant and flower decorations and a new generation of talented artisans and lifestyle projects.

The opening art window in the street hosts a stunning sculpture in raw earth and alabaster from the talented hand of Italian artist Roberta Busato. It is one in the series of her hypnotising artworks, commissioned especially for Kalpa Art Living and our city of Volterra. It is an imaginary representation honouring the Etruscan divinities and creating a beautiful connection of contemporary art with the surrounding territory and its past.
